Treatment Philosophy: "My goal with every patient is to empower by bringing about more awareness of his or her own body.  Pain brings most people in and is my focus for treatment; however, through a series of appointments, my goal is to bring a greater harmony and balance to every Body, thus promoting better sleep, improved digestion, increased energy, and an equanimous mental state only possible through a well-harmonized system."

Biography

We all want to live better.  We want to feel clearer, stronger, healthier, happier and emotionally equanimous.  We want to thrive.  Yet, it is challenging to thrive in our (usually) stressful and (often) toxic world.  When our digestion is off, we’re unable to absorb the nutrients our body needs; when our sleep is disrupted, we don’t have the energy to get through the day.  When we’re drained, stressed, and sick: then we are merely surviving.

I believe there is a huge difference between mere survival and thriving.  I also believe in your body’s capacity to heal.  I believe that we all have an innate biorhythm and strength that we can tap into.  I believe in Self Actualization.  I believe that in order to achieve the highest actualized form of Self, the vessel (body) must be reinforced and balanced to give it strength.  And I believe that Chinese Medicine can be an important tool to help you in getting there.

I often have people ask me how I got into Chinese Medicine.  The truth is, I’ve always been a seeker.  There has always been a mild discontent stirring within me, driving my desire to seek and explore, and even disrupt.  As a young boy growing up in the Midwest, I knew there had to be more.  As I became an adult, I went out into the world: first to a college 500 miles away, then to Europe for a summer of backpacking for 7 weeks, and finally moving abroad to Germany and eventually New Zealand.  However, the road left me tired and weary, and at 26 I returned to my home in Omaha, determined to find my place here in this wonderfully vast and varied country of ours.  Months later, I moved to Oregon (reminiscent of New Zealand), landing in Portland on a 70 degree day in February.  I stayed with a friend whom I had met traveling in Europe who was in his first year at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM), studying Chinese Medicine.  I stayed for 2 weeks with Geoff and his roommate Brandon (also a student of Chinese Medicine), giving me my first exposure to this new type of medicine.

It wasn’t until three years later, living in Bend, that I realized my calling as a healer.  From that particular day, every step I took was in the direction of practicing Chinese Medicine.  As it turns out, the road is long and windy, and it was nearly 6 years later that I received my license, having graduated just weeks before the birth of my first son.

Now, more than 10 years later, I continue on my path, graciously sharing my gift through the practice of this fine and nuanced medicine.  Chinese Medicine is the way in which I serve humanity, in hopes of creating a positive change that helps us to survive into a future uncertain.
